Creativity and Awareness

Wax Wing Music Studio is the home studio of Musician/Composer/Guitar Teacher: Elliott Vernon. Operating from his home in East Vancouver, Elliott's goal is to spark creative expresion in his client's lives, and to arm them with the nessesary tools and techniques to do so. We operate under the premise that all people are inherently creative, and that it is a matter of coming back to our roots as innate Artists. Be it Writing, Music, Visual Art, or Architechture, Humankind just cant get enough of creating. It is the philosophy of Wax Wing that we all have the potential to be Musicians, but it takes guided hard work, and the desire to learn.

At Wax Wing Studio, we offer tailor made lesson plans to help you meet your creative and technical goals. Every person is unique, and therefore has unique, and specific needs, and goals, when it comes to learning music. May you be a complete beginner, Intermediate, or an advanced player, there is always so much to learn, and it can be difficult to penetrate the vast amount of material availiable from music books, or online. Online material is very useful, but caters to a small demographic that can learn in that way, and it helps to have at least a basic understanding of music jargon and theory to be able to use online tutorials optimally. We specialize in making things consise, and as easy to learn as is possible. People of all ages and skill level can benefit from one-on-one teaching in ways that teaching one's self cannot achieve. We provide high quality material with information sparsely found through other platforms. We focus on effective practice and learning through building focused awareness, and mindful practice. Wax Wing Workshops

Wax Wing is now offering group workshop sessions. Workshops will be aimed towards students whom have some experience playing an instrument, but feel they need some supplemetary education in various topics about music.

Subjects Will Include:

Reading music: Mastering the clefs

Scale theory dragon slaying

Chord building contruction

Harmony for a harmonious life

Improvisational wizardry

Composition and other chaotic arts

Effects stacking: Portals to unseen realms

These group sessions will be music theory based interactive lessons where players of all levels,and instruments are welcome. Wax Wing Workshops are available with enough demand, typically twice a month.these are a fantastic opportunity to broaden one's musical boundaries, meet other musicians nearby, and have some fun learning about art.

Wax wing Workshops start at 20$ per 2.5 hour session.

ELLIOTT VERNON

Classically trained in both Classical Guitar and Jazz, Elliott has a Bachelors degree in Music From KPU. WIth 17 years of Playing experience, and 10 years of teaching experience, Elliott is a classical guitar performer, and has played in Groups of varying styles including: Metal, Rock, Folk, Soul/Funk, Dark Disco, and Post/Math Rock. Elliott specializes in instructing Classical Guitar, Accoustic styles, and Electric Guitar, working in all genres including, but not limited to: Jazz Folk, Country, Metal, Progressive Music, Classical, Soul/Funk, Rock, Blues, Reggae/Ska, Punk, and Pop. Having taught people between the ages of 5-65 in all walks of life, Elliott has witnessed first hand the benefit learning an instrument can have on anyone who makes the effort to learn, and anyone can learn to play with some hard work.

Elliott's lessons are centered around building technique, creativity, and showing where the two intersect. Having a solid base in music theory can transform any player, and facilitate better understanding of the instrument and inspire more creativity. Learning interesting songs that a student is engaged with is a great way to apply technique, and learn from what has been done before. Elliott also focuses on improvisation, and composition. Once students begin to grasp the basics of the guitar, or any other instrument, it is a true joy to create original music, but it can be challenging to know where to begin. Having a coach to help with composing can help students break through the barriers to free creative expression.

POLICIES

1. We require post dated cheques, Interac etransfer, or cash at the beginning of each month.
2. Registration is available anytime during the year.
3. We follow the Vancouver School District calendar, however we can remain open upon request.
4. Please provide us with at least 24 hours notice of a lesson cancellation, otherweise the lesson is forfeit. Exceptions are made in extreme circumstances in which a make-up lesson can be arranged.
5. If a lesson is missed with proper notice, we ask that we have a make up lesson.
6. If a student wishes to discontinue lessons, please provide two weeks notice if possible. Any remaining outstanding lessons will be refunded.
